Explanation

This ministry of health and wholeness DOES NOT seek to do what the Spiritual Leader of the facility does but rather to bring another dimension of caring to the congregation that enhances the spiritual growth and support provided through day to day work of the ministerial staff. It also works with the other facility programs such as outreach and relief funds and Stewardship to name a few.

Health is viewed not as the absence of disease but a sense of physical, social, psychological and spiritual well being and of being in harmony with self, others, the environment and with GOD.

Our prayers should be a positive expression of our confidence in GOD's healing ways.

A) Spiritual Healing
B) Grace to endure an illness or infirmity
C) Removal of an illness or infirmity by some healing cure.

The purpose of this ministry is to try and touch the entire congregation with information, knowledge and skills that will help raise awareness of the relationship between health and spiritual well being; to encourage each person toward the understanding that health is a gift and that each person is responsible for being a good steward of the gift: to provide health education, programs and support which can assist to make healthy lifestyle choices in all areas of each person's life.

The Parish Nurse works along side the Spiritual Leader and other interested people to empower others to maintain their physical, mental and spiritual health; and has the ability to bridge the gap between medicine and theology balancing knowledge, skill, sciences, theology, humanities, service, worship and nursing care with pastorical care functions.

The program shall hold that ALL people are sacred and MUST be treated with respect and dignity and recognition that most illnesses and premature deaths are a result of lifestyle choice about diet, exercise, substance abuse, violence, and risk taking behaviors and that integrating current medical and behavioral knowledge with the beliefs and practices of the faith community so health as wholeness will be promoted, preventing or minimizing illness.

Programs that are suggested to start within the church community during this first year of operation include but are not limited to; Sunday morning blood pressure screening.

If you would like your church / facility to have this ministry in place, please give Ohio Valley Parish Nursing a call at 1-304-723-6019 or email to babav@comcast.net.

Yours in Christ,
